RATS:

With a gestation period of only 21 to 24 days, rats are one of the fastest breeding animals on the planet and there are now believed to be over 80 million rats in England alone. Indeed, it is said that you are never more than 6 feet away from one. With this in mind, that’s a lot of rats looking for a new home or somewhere to raise their young.

It may be a scary thought that rats can easily get into your property, but it’s never as hard for them as people think. No vent or gap is too small for them to enter and they can chew through almost anything, including concrete. With four razor-sharp incisors, (two on the top, two on the bottom) rats gnaw to keep their teeth sharp and down to size. Inside your property, they may chew on electrical cables, waste pipes, copper water pipes, and even wooden joists.

RATS AND DRAINS:

Rats are ever-present in sewers, which is why preventing them from accessing your property via drains is the most effective way of keeping them out. We offer camera surveys of your drains to check for signs of rats in your sewers.

If rats are getting in via cracked or otherwise damaged pipes, we can install a “rat-stopper” valve, which allows water to flow down the pipe but prevents anything from getting back up. In more extreme cases, we carry out full drain repairs, whether it’s re-lining your drains or excavating your system and replacing existing gaps and holes.

DISEASES:

The biggest health risk rats pose to your property is diseases. Rats are known to carry leptospiral jaundice (Weil’s disease) and can contaminate foodstuff and preparation areas. This deadly disease can be transferred via urine, droppings or even just on their fur. If restaurants or any services offering food have an infestation of rats, this can be very harmful to their reputation. Along with Weil’s disease, rats are also known to carry E.coli and Salmonella.

TREATMENT:

Upon our engineer’s arrival at your property, they will look for any obvious entry points around the property, before working their way inside to continue the search. They will also look for rat droppings, chewing, or grease marks, which could be anywhere inside your property. Once all areas have been covered, we will determine the severity of the issue and bait and place traps suitable to the job, with tamper-proof stations to stop anyone but the engineer from touching them or causing harm to themselves.

Please understand that all jobs are different, and each job has a different timescale to eradicate the infestation. Two visits will be required, as we are not allowed to leave poison down without it being removed on a later visit. After the infestation has been eradicated, you may need to undertake further proofing to stop the rats from returning, but this advice is given on a job-by-job basis.

MICE

Mice love to invade commercial and domestic properties not just for shelter and for food but also for finding a new home for themselves and their young. Due to the size of mice, they can gain access through the tiniest of gaps, including holes in walls, floors, and wall cavities.

A house mouse has a gestation period of only 20 days and is sexually mature at the age of only 6 weeks. The average house mouse can have between 5 and 10 litters per year, with 4 to 6 mice in each litter. They are also small enough to gain access through gas and waterpipes and can chew through near enough anything to nest inside hard-to-reach spaces, including softs and loft insulation.

DISEASE:

Mice are known to carry disease in their urine and their droppings. Their fleas and ticks also carry disease. This makes it very easy for them to contaminate your domestic work surfaces or your restaurant. Furthermore, mice are incontinent meaning they constantly urinate leaving your home and work at a huge risk of disease.

TREATMENT:

Starting with a search for obvious entry points around your home, our engineer will look for any signs of mice throughout your property, including tell-tale problems such as mice droppings, chewing, or grease marks. This will help the engineer decide on an appropriate response to the infestation, including baiting and placing traps. All traps are appropriately placed or equipped with tamper-proof stations to prevent other people from hurting themselves.

Every job is different, and we will keep you informed of the timescale for removing your infestation. On all jobs, we will always make two visits – the first to lay poison or traps and the second to remove them when the infestation has been dealt with. On a case-by-case basis, we will offer advice about whether further visits or proofing measures will be required.
